Embracing Growth and Change as a Leader in the Marketplace

Introduction:

In the ever-changing world of leadership and business, I’ve learned something foundational: leadership isn’t something you’re born with—it’s something God shapes in you through intentional effort and the right choices. For me, leadership is all about being authentic, staying simple, and prioritizing growth.

One thing I’ve had to come to terms with—something we all tend to resist—is change. Growth and change go hand in hand. I’ve realized that without change, I can’t grow. Here’s a truth I live by: the greatest reward of the right changes is growth. If the changes I’m making aren’t producing growth in my life or in my organization, then I need to re-evaluate whether they’re the right ones.

Reflection: How Have I Changed Recently?

Here’s a question I ask myself regularly:

  • How have I changed in the last year, six months, or even the last 30 days?

  • Where have those changes moved me closer to my goals?

If I struggle to answer those questions, it’s a wake-up call. It’s a sign that I need to embrace the changes necessary for growth. But I know that change can’t be random—it has to be intentional and purposeful, moving me closer to where God is leading me.

Be the Change You Want to See

One thing I remind myself often is this: the more I change, the more I become an instrument of change in the lives of others. I know that as a leader, I’m a carrier of atmosphere. My energy, my habits, and my attitudes set the tone for everyone I influence.

I remember a powerful example of this. A father in my church shared how he started waking up earlier each morning to work on his relationship with God and develop his personal gifts. His son noticed this habit and began waking up earlier too—not quite as early, but earlier than before. The father’s personal growth inspired his son to change.

That’s the ripple effect of leadership. When I grow, I naturally inspire those around me—whether I’m leading a team, building a business, or guiding my family.

Growth Through Divine Guidance

For me, God’s word and the Holy Spirit are the keys to navigating change. The Bible, especially Proverbs, is full of timeless wisdom that helps me make the right adjustments in my life.

I’m reminded of what it says in 2 Corinthians 3:18: as I look into God’s word, I’m transformed—from glory to glory—by the Spirit of the Lord. That’s the kind of change I strive for, the kind that leads to lasting growth.

Even if faith isn’t part of your leadership approach, the principle still applies: we all need guidance. Whether it’s through mentors, books, or personal reflection, having a source of wisdom is crucial to making intentional changes that lead to growth.

Conclusion

One thing I know for sure is that change isn’t optional—it’s constant. If I resist it, I stay stuck. But if I embrace it, I grow into a better version of myself and become more effective in my role.

I’m energized by changes and challenges because they give me opportunities to refine my skills, deepen my impact, and fulfill the purpose God has for me.

So, I ask myself daily:

  1. "How am I changing?"

  2. "Is this change leading me to grow?"

I’ve come to see change as a gift, even when it’s uncomfortable. It’s an opportunity to grow, to lead better, and to inspire those around me. I hope this encourages you to embrace change as well. Remember, as I often say, God is for you. Let’s keep growing together.
